Marketing不只是promotion

「金融海嘯年」四處都是promotion,上文闡述了promotion gimmick的marketing效力,大家可以四處觀摩。但大家可千萬不要誤會,marketing就是promotion,marketing人每天的工作就是度橋諗promotion gimmick。

從學術層面,promotion gimmick只是tactics,是執行promotion strategy的手法而已。做marketing,除了promotion,其實還要兼顧很多事情,什麼4P、3C、positioning等等,書本上說了很多。其實日常生活,要觀察marketing strategy並不難,不過因為出色的marketing strategy不會如promotion gimmick般三朝兩日便會收效,而且成功的marketing strategy,不但帶來銷量,還會改變消費者的習慣,為品牌長遠發展奠定基礎。

我們經常提到的iPod/iPhone,是大家最熟悉的例子,自從iPod推出以來,在美國甚至全球很多地方的市場佔有率一直領先,而且深深改變了消費者聽音樂的習慣。iPod一代一代的推出,消費者便一代一代的追款,iPod可以減價、出新顏色等的tactics去短期刺激銷量,但設計出iPod/iPhone和iTunes,卻是出色的marketing strategy。

說到這裡,大家可能會發現,marketing strategy和business strategy好像有點重疊。不錯,其實到了這個層次,很難區分一個決定究竟是business、finance、marketing還是operation。事實上,marketing也是工商管理的一部分,marketing的任務也是服務公司的盈利,只是一些策略基礎,以了解消費者、了解市場環境、了解競爭對手的產品為入手點,便算是marketing strategy了。在實際工作上,marketing的最高層通常都是management board的一員。到了這個層次,marketing人也好,finance人也好,operation人也好,統統都要了解不同專業範疇,marketing director絕不能只顧marketing needs而不理公司的財務狀況和營運限制的。

 近日 I saw a 廣告 describing about diamonds.
the slogan was "愛很美"

And I thought it was very funny to see it.
if  愛很美 was to describe diamonds.


I put 1 basic assumption for females
"鑽石也很美"

I guess I can say 愛 = 鑽石

because it expresses both beautiful things~!

Indeed, Diamonds are a girl's best frd
